“A Woman of Many Wheels”

We all have stories of when we first started riding a motorcycle, and I don’t believe mine is too different than many others. I was 20 when I latched onto a Honda Cub. I had no license, no helmet, and my dad and “friend” threw a fit whenever I took off down the country road for a spin. I didn’t care; I was having the time of my life.

On one of my many excursions down that country road, the Cub broke down. When my dad saw me walking up the road toward home, I could see he was spitting fire.  After hauling the bike home, my dad and friend decided it was time to put an end to my summer excursions, and both refused to fix the bike. That really didn’t bother me; I figured I’d just find someone to help get it running again.  However, my friend knowing me too well, took the Cub back to his house.  My summer “fling” had come to an end, but not the love that little Cub instilled.

As with a lot of us, other circumstances took me away from motorcycling for a number of years, until 1985 when I married Jerry. After a few years of being a co-rider, I decided it was time to ride my own motorcycle once again. We found an old 305 Kawasaki, which was great for a first bike. I received my license and took a Motorcycle Safety Course the next year. Several motorcycles have graced my garage, including the infamous White Elephant (a 1990SE Honda Gold Wing Lehman trike). I now own a Candy Red 2003 Honda Gold Wing Lehman trike.

I have been a member of WOW for 14 years and a charter member of the Hazel Kolb Show-Me Riders since 1994.  Since that time, I have held several positions within the chapter—Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Director, Director, Newsletter Editor, and Ride Coordinator. I have been a member of the American Motorcyclist Association for 18 years, GWRRA for 9 years, and Trike Riders International for 1 year.

After serving the last two years as Missouri’s Assistant State Ambassador, I now find myself serving the Missouri chapters as their State Ambassador. I am looking forward to working with the WOW chapters of Missouri.  My door will always be open to any suggestions, questions that need answering, problems that may need solving, or to those that would just like to chat.
